A GANSEY is a warm, hard-wearing, seamless sweater that was originally worn by fishermen.
The sweater is a perfect companion for outdoor play or as a cosy indoor sweater. The colours can vary from classic navy blue and grey to more lively shades.
You can let the child decide on the colours.

The sweater stems from the island of Guernsey, and its history goes back more than 400 years. Through the times, the inspiration for the patterns on these beautiful sweaters has been spread throughout most of Europe when the seamen went ashore in a foreign harbour.

Arbejdsgang

The sweater is worked top down. Short rows are worked in the back of the neck to shape the neck opening. On the yoke, a bubble stitch pattern is worked. Here, you must be aware of whether you still have the correct gauge. The yoke is then divided into body and sleeves. The sleeve stitches are put on hold while the body is worked in pattern until it has reached the stated length or your desired length. Stitches are then picked up along the neck opening, and the neckline is worked in rib stitch. All ribbings are bound off with the Italian bind off method.
